Following a Dream

On Sept. 1, 2008, Brad and Sarah Kane departed their lives in Bonita Springs, Fla. to pursue a better life for their family in Boston. Having visited the city on numerous occasions, the couple fell in love with its offerings and hope it becomes a suitable place to settle.

In order to make the move, the family gave up its steady paycheck from Brad’s job as a staff reporter at a corporate newspaper, and he will pursue an independent writing career. Although scary, Brad and Sarah believe this will reap long-term benefits for themselves, daughter Maggie, the baby due in May and the rest of their family.

With no health insurance, biweekly paycheck, the comfort and security of a steady job — essentially with no safety net — the family members only have each other and very little start-up money to turn this dream into a reality.

Visit this Web site often as the family frequently chronicles its adventures trying to prove that sometimes finding happiness means casting off the security blanket and embracing fear, doubt and the unknown.

This is their Great Boston Experiment.
